MATERIALS NEEDED

One practice pad
One pair drum sticks (possibly more)
One pair yarn mallets
One pair plastic mallets
One pair timpani mallets
One stick bag
Two music books - Whichever are specified by Mr. Athayde

CURRICULUM

Students will gain the following skills:
Reading music
Counting and playing rhythms
Snare drum, timpani, mallet keyboard and auxiliary percussion techniques
Concepts of playing in an ensemble
Meeting benchmarks for age/level appropriate skills
Possible percussion ensembles
Care, tuning (if applicable), history and origin of all percussion instruments

EXPECTATIONS AND ASSESSMENT

Bring all required materials (sticks, mallets, books and assignments)
Be respectful of all instruments, instructors and fellow students
Be attentive in class (I promise we’ll have fun!)
Prepare and turn in all take home assignments
Prepare tests on a consistent basis
