Music Books
Mr. Athayde, Mrs. McNulty or Miss Klier will direct you as to which books to buy and when to buy them. Your local music dealer carries the books and many of the supplies that you will need. Presently, the Band program (including Beginning Instruments) uses the Standard of Excellence series by Bruce Pearson, published by Kjos. Beginning Instruments class and Cadet Bands use the red book. Concert Band uses the blue book, and Symphonic Band uses the green book. At the beginning of the year, the Concert Band reviews the red book and Symphonic Band reviews the blue book. The String Orchestra is using sheet music only. The Chorus uses sheet music/octavos and classroom music textbooks (special purchases may be required for solo/ensemble participation). Sheet music is issued to all students for the instrument they play. This music is school property and must be returned in good condition. Take care of it and do not lose it!
Difficulty of the Pieces this Year
As students progress to the more advanced bands, the level of technical difficulty will increase. However, rather than focus on the degree of difficulty of each piece, we would rather the students focus on going deeper into the music, on “becoming” the music, and not just playing it.
