Join many of your friends and other area musicians for the one of a kind and only Orinda 4th of July Pickup Marching Band - the only one in America. This will be the 23rd Year we march in the streets in a very large parade. The band meets to rehearse one hour before we march so we learn how to line up—turn corners—and play our reviewing stand musical lineup.
Musicians of any level are welcome. Some folks have marched with us for years and only play their trumpet or clarinet once per year and that is GREAT! So bring mom or grandma or a neighbor and encourage anyone who can bring one good note to march and have fun. Many high school and middle school musicians come back in later years and continue to show support for this one of a kind musical opportunity.
Music in advanceor at the 9AM Rehearsal on the 4th:
Call Mo Levich and pick up the Marching Band Book at his house in Lafayette if you want it in advance- 283-0361 - for front porch pickup or just show up on the 4th and get it.
Where to rehearse and meet?Meet at 9AM we march at 10AM
Meet in Orinda next to Casa Orinda and the joining Gas Station up the hill by the onramp to Lafayette. You will hear us.
Percussion OnlyYou need to call M. Greene 254-9169 as there are limited numbers of marching drums and they must be assigned in advance so please call as soon as you read this. You will be instructed to then show up one hour earlier than anyone else to learn the cadence and make sure the drums are fit properly. You would show up at 8AM on the 4th for percussion rehearsal.
DressWhite shirt, Blue shorts or pants and anything Red including any type of flag or decoration you can think of PLUS sun glasses so you can hide.
The parade lasts about two hours and the band usually is in the lead of the parade but once we get near the new Orinda Library the City provides chairs and we become a concert band for the rest of the parade until we close the event with our Reviewing Stand Show where we turn and play to the Reviewing Stand.
Come have fun!
