This free concert series will run every Friday night in September from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm in the Lafayette Plaza, located at Mt. Diablo Blvd. and Moraga Rd. The Lafayette Rotary Club will be cooking up dogs and selling beverages.
The series, presented by Lafayette’s Generations in Jazz Foundation, will include the following performers:
September 7 - Fred Randolph Combo
September 14 - Flying Solo and jazz Outrage
September 21 - Brian Pardo and the Bentley Jazz Ensemble
September 28 - Rory Snyder Quartet
On September 6-7, the City of Lafayette will be celebrating the Marquis de La fayette’s 250th Birthday. As a 19-year-old French officer, Lafayette sailed to America and joined General Washington in Philadelphia as both a general and as a diplomat, serving entirely without pay in both roles. His friendship with Washington, his bravery, and his passion for America’s struggle for independence earned him the reputation as “the soldier’s friend. “
During the band’s break on Friday, September 7, Catherine Jolivet Johnson, with French For Fun, will help us throw a little party for General Lafayette with a giant birthday cake. French For Fun is a language and cultural center in Lafayette.
Bring your blankets and picnic baskets, or enjoy a meal offered by the Lafayette Rotary Club.
This year’s Jazz in the Plaza is sponsored by The Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, the City of Lafayette, Diablo Valley 92.1 and the Contra Costa Times.
