Publishing Guidelines
Guidelines for publishing information on the StanleyMusic.org Web site and mailing lists
Goals
- Provide useful, desired, family-friendly information
- Minimize the number of emails sent
- Write with professional quality
- Avoid all caps or multiple exclamation points
Gigs Email List Guidelines
- Obtain approval from Bob Athayde before starting to post
- Remember that you are posting to a list whose subscriber list you don't control, so avoid instructions such as "To unsubscribe, send me a note."
- Announce events just once (no reminders later, unless they accompany new information)
- Post infrequently, perhaps no more than once a week
- Use a descriptive subject, such as "XYZ Band plays jazz at ABC Hall"
- Don't post from an email service that inserts ads into your emails
- Carefully check your text, as well as any Web sites you link to, ensuring child-suitability
- Put the key information in the text of your message. Don't include a flyer or other attachments.
- Prefer plain text to HTML messages, but if you do have rich text content (bold, italics, lists, etc.) and want to send as HTML, tell your email client to send as HTML and plain text (see your email software documentation). Not all subscribers can read HTML messages.
- Email your messages to stanleymusic-gigs@stanleymusic.org. Don't include individuals or other lists as recipients (to: or cc:) along with the stanleymusic-gigs@stanleymusic.org recipient, without a good reason. We don't want to leak onto our list the addresses of all the other places you are sending your announcement.
For examples of messages that were approved, see our archived postings.
